"Dear Steve, I never had the chance to talk to you about Last World Standing world Standing. I have played your Last World Standing three times in the last week. What Brilliance! what work! a true masterpiece and the work of a musical genius!" Tom Walsh, Executive Producer, EnterAktion Studios

"Dear Stephen! Great, wunderbar!! It¥s a special sample of very emotional music. It¥s very extraordinary!! I guess thats a new step in instrumentation and arrangement of your great works, but each composition is typical for "Stephen Melillo"!! Very deaply sound, the track with Martin Kiener sounds like an Symphony Orchestra. Sorry, I¥m not able to describe it in english, but this CD takes the Concert Band Music in a new dimension. In my opinion, the great bands and band directors like this music and the people in the concert halls would be touched by such wunderfull music all over the world!!!!! Godspeed" P.S. The Beginning of our last concert with SBO Ried an 26.10. was with your opus 1... and now, it is on Chapter 13. That`s great of you, to give your first, wunderfull work to your new CD!! Gerhard Reischel, Conductor Landesmusikschule Leonding, Austria

"Composer Melillo is gifted and blessed with a God-given talent he gives and shares with the world. When one listens to his music, an intense spiritual statement immerses one into his beautiful world of musical expression. Melilloís compositions are different from all other composers! Immediately one is captivated by the depth and soul of his craft. I encourage you to listen and view his Last World Standing. This is a monumental piece of music that delivers a most profound musical experience about our life and the wars that we have lived through. Thank you, Steve for the massive contributions you are making to our musical world." Edward S. Lisk, Clinician, Conductor, Author

Testimonials

"Thanks so much for sending this original marvelous recreation of the Bach piece. The sonorous theme in the background makes me think of a combination of Dvorak's New World and Bach. I am sending this to some of the music members I know will enjoy listening to this Piece from Stephen Melillo. I'm sure if Bach were listening to this he would be extremely pleased. I will keep this wonderful creation in my archives." Salvatore Barbaro, Jr. PhD

Music from the Motion Picture AURORA

Click Here to View Perusal Score

Description:

This is a three-movement work.  Each part is playable as a separate piece. The center movement is scored for a new-to-our-idiom orchestration featuring the woodwind section. The piece is conceived to allow many options as possible within the attainable scope of a Grade 3-4 work for band.

The piece is a new "take" on Music from the 68-minute Film Score for AURORA.

Whereas, in many cases, an entity like a film score will be composed by one composer and then arranged by another, here is an instance where the composer and then the re-composer are one in the same. This is a great opportunity, therefore, to share something intimate and non-homogenized with your students.

Godspeed.

O COME HOLY NIGHT!

Click Here to View Perusal Score

Description

The work opens with a mysterious, middle-eastern, spine-chilling swell. Suddenly, Hark the Herald Angels heralds over driving rhythms, giving way to Silent Night, with many options from solo singer to chorus to horn solo to horn tutti. A dramatic restatement, again with optional chorus, leaves the audience tuned and ready!

THE NATURE OF HOPE

Click Here to View Perusal Score

Description

THE NATURE OF HOPE... an Epilogue for the Knight! Because of fingering patterns employed in the woodwinds, this piece falls into a grade 3 - 4. Though the brasses are pushed beyond these bounds, there is a logic to the key and the confines of their range. Though the tempo could be slowed to accommodate younger players, it is suggested that a good recording of this work will inspire them to take on the challenge. Inner voice brass will be challenged, but their hard work will allow for a glorious epilogue to the A Wish to the World Suite.

This piece was inspired by a young woman of tremendous Faith. Please visit the Score Notes to understand the technical considerations as well as the motivation for the work.

A Wish to the World is a series of pieces written to inspire the next generation of Heroes. These pieces can be played as a suite across the Music Program in the manner of THE FOUNTAINHEAD and STORMQUEST, or they can be rendered individually.

A Wish to the World is commissioned by Barry Wentz and the Alpena High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble with Ray Reynolds, Director of the Thunder Bay JHS Band, and Keith Hodsgon & The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble, Mr. Larry White & The Rancho Buena Vista Wind Ensemble in California, Mr. Paul Holzen & the Parkway Northeast Middle School, and the Kentucky Music Educators Association.

THE SHOEMAKER an Immigrant & a Dream

Click Here to View Perusal Score

Description

THE SHOEMAKER... An Immigrant & A Dream is dedicated to all those who have faced the unknown. With great Faith and Hope, they boarded ships and aimed them at the New World. Even in their great toil, there was Joy. They loved their work and wanted only the best for all those who would follow. Even when fear should have won, there was determination, humor, innocence and daring.

This work embodies the spirit of adventure taken on by the immigrants while quoting the varied geographies from which they embarked.

The many concepts provided within this work can be investigated in the Score Notes.

UNDER COVER OF NIGHT & INTO THE LIGHT OF DAY!

Click Here to View Perusal Score

Description:

UNDER COVER OF NIGHT, a grade 3 at 3:33, explores differences in major and minor harmonies, introduces changing meters in a straightforward way and moves to a lyrical center section that rises and falls before returning to a dark, symphonic ending.

INTO the LIGHT of DAY! (part 2), a grade 4 at 4:12, is a triumphal Americana theme which emerges from a sunrise-like setting. Each section shares in and then joins in the dramatic conclusion. The piece will motivate your students to explore the orchestral key of D, and clarinets will have an opportunity to explore alternate, side-to-side fingerings.
