"I" of the STORM!

Description

"I" of the STORM! is a Fugue for Wind Symphony and Woodwind Soloist. There are C, Bb, and Eb solo parts for any of your woodwind players who need the opportunity to be featured!

The second movement is a bittersweet, haunting ballad entitled, NO ONE KNOWS. The third movement is an Epilogue which takes the Main Fugue and delivers it in a spine-chilling and dramatic conclusion! The solo, while working in scalar lines, is fast, sensational and demanding. (Grade 5 or 6)

DOUG MONROE REACTIONS to Clarinet Piece:

"In a word...profound. To the core. It is creation observed. I can't wait to play it. I will be playing this on my European concert tour, fall 2012 (Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest October 6th and Robert Schumann's recital hall in Zwickau, Germany date TBA) as well as my recital next year. You are sublimely gifted." Doug

PS: I don't think I told you this, but I use your book of Function Chorales with my chamber groups here. They eat it up! We'll use it with our faculty quintet too.

Description

A Tribute to Roberto Clemente, the first Hispanic Baseball Player and a Great Man who died living his beliefs. Please see the score notes for much much much.

Disfrute!

The nature of "tribute" is fascinating because once you begin really paying homage to anything or anyone or any assemblage of truly great people, there is no end. Kakehashi: That We Might Live and Last World Standing are such examples.

After writing 21: Won Way, a tribute to Roberto Clemente... and for those of you too young to know who this is, please read about his Life... more Music came. First the Romanza para Roberto, and later the Pasodobles para Santa Cecelia (patron saint of Music) y los Heroes de Espana, of which Roberto may definitely be included.

21: Won Way, in both versions, the stand-alone version, or the version preceded by the Romanza para Roberto is a tribute to Roberto Clemente, his Hispanic origins, and as always, with a dramatic, Heroic-Romantic "Stormworks" orchestration.

21: GANO CAMINO (European Version) Grade: 6 | Duration: 15:15

Description:

You would be saddened to know how many times I am asked to compose a work for someone who has passed on. I often say no, but when three band directors called at the same time to compose such a work, I decided to create a young band statement that might positively address this situation. Again, the colours explored are new to our idiom, the themes and moods easy to connect with. Options within the work allow for a range from Grade 2 to perhaps Grade 4.

A WALK ON THE WATER

Description

An off-stage alto vocalist calls to us. We respond. The new-to-our-idiom colours join with the alto "muse" and beckon us in new ways. Through struggle and adventure, we finally arrive at the moment of "connection". And when we do, we can "walk on the water".

Godspeed!

Description:

Afincé offers still yet another opportunity for an innovative mix of forces and has many possible uses in your program. The Grade 3 Level Middle School, or young High School Band may be joined by a very strong high school, visiting college, or professional percussion ensemble!

The piece features the Percussionists, but nevertheless provides a Musical and educational experience for the wind Musicians. The piece is essentially a groove in 3.5/4. Teaching scenarios accompany this and all young band works. The work can also be rendered with the Jazz Ensemble, and opened for solos, or rendered with just Percussion Ensemble, and/or edited into an exciting field version.

There are many avenues of use and exploration in this strategic addition to your library.

Please visit the score for more information.  Because of space, this track did not make the CD Recording.  It is a part of STORMJourneys, but also Winds & Percussion in Motion.

Here is an mp3 of Afincé.
